Why your PC is very slow?

We may feel sometimes that our PC is very slow and takes a long time to open or download something. We wonder why it runs like this although it’s new and the best brand of computers. There are a number of reasons, which are responsible for making your computer slow.
First of all, you should check the registry, which can be considered as the powerhouse of the computer. If the windows registry is damaged or not organized properly your computer may become slow and ultimately ends up freezing. You should clean the registry with a good quality registry regularly to get a better result and speed up your computer.

Some possible causes, which can be responsible for a PC slow down, have been discussed here:

Fragmentation of Hard disk – Disk fragmentation is necessary because while installing or deleting files from the hard drive windows does not always put them back to their place in order to save speed or just because the file value moves up and down. If you do not know what the value is then we must tell you that the value is set depending on the number of times you use a program. If you use a particular program which is important for you more than once the windows will move the program at the top of the hard disk so that the hard disk can load the program faster than the rest such as the beginning of the drive is much faster than the end.

You should defragment the hard drive with the help of windows defragmentation tool. If you are executing the process for the first time it may take some time. You can start the process by going to the start menu>programs>accessories>>system tools< and by choosing "Disk Defragmenter".

Random Access Memory (RAM) issues – You should free some space in RAM. To do this you can replace your animated background with a static one or you may deactivate some enhancements of windows. To do this you need to go to the control panel>system>advanced and then under performance> setting and then deactivate some options. You can also choose a lower color setting in the video options by right clicking on the desktop and selecting properties. If all your efforts go in vain you may buy some RAM space, which is available in the market at a very cheap rate.

Issues related to Virtual Memory – Virtual memory is basically used by windows kernel (the operating system) or/and multimedia programs like video editors or converters, audio and other demanding programs or applications. As you will not have sufficient memory ever to load all that you want into the RAM, windows will make a new space which can be used in the hard drive like the physical memory so that you can play games while still running other programs in the background. It is just like the RAM but in the hard drive.

If it is set too high your PC slows, as the hard drive is much slower than the RAM. It means that the memory is 1000X+++ faster than the hard drive. So if you permit windows to use excessive virtual memory it will take a long time to load the programs you need. On the other hand if it is too slow then you are running out of memory.

You should buy more RAM to let windows to utilize a lesser amount of virtual memory or free up some space in the disk as it can be the reason why you are having low virtual memory as the windows allot this memory whenever you restart the computer. So if you have used more space in the disk before restarting windows will use the virtual memory, which is left of in the hard drive. If it is too high you can change the setting back to let the windows taking care of the virtual memory usage.

Issues related to Registry – When you view, delete cache files or uninstall programs the windows registry will store some information at the will of the application or just because the program was manually removed leaving all information stored into the registry. As a result windows have to bear all these information, which are utterly useless, and make a PC slower than the normal.

To solve this problem and speed up PC you can manually edit the registry. But you have to be careful while editing. If you accidentally delete a legitimate file the entire system may get freeze.

Issues related to file Corruption– files usually get corrupted if the computer is not shut down appropriately. The other reasons, which can be responsible for file corruption, are over heating of hard disk drive (HDD), if the computer is over locked or if the acoustic setting is very high and required to be changed.

To solve the corruption issue you need to right click on the primary drive which i.e. C drive and then click on properties> tools and then click on the check now in the error checking part and answer "yes" to all the queries and then restart. If your problem does not get solved then you might have a "Bad Block" which is a physical damage in the drive. In that case you need to replace it as soon as possible.

If the hard disk drive is over heated and you have more than one hard disk drive you should leave a space between each of them. Otherwise you may have to buy a heat pipe cooler from a good computer store.

Over heating of Central Processing Unit (CPU) – If the processor gets over heated you should clean the heat sink and if possible you should clean the fan too. If the process fails to solve the matter you should change it.

Issues related to Internet connection – There are a number of Internet related issues, which can make a PC slower than the normal such as:

1. ISP problem
2. Windows setting like Receive Window and MTU
3. Line quality problem
4. The programs, which are running
5. Hijacker problem
6. Firewall issue
7. Router issue

Partitioning problem – According to the Parallel ATA or UATA architecture a 250 GB hard drive should be divided into 2 parts and according to the SATA (Serial ATA) architecture a 500 GB hard drive should be partitioned into minimum 2 parts. It is because when a 500 GB SATA or a 250 GB ATA hard drive becomes half full the head inside the hard disk drive has to search through the entire 500 or 250 GB of data. But if it is partitioned into 2 sectioned the heads have to search through only half the disk.

You can partition the hard drive with the help of a program named "Partition Magic". But before running the process you should back up all your necessary data because once the partitioning process will get over you will lose all the data automatically.

Apart from the causes mentioned above there are a number of other issues, which can make your computer slow. These are if the Norton Antivirus is installed or you have a Trojan / Malware / Spyware / Adware / Virus using resources and many more.
As a conclusion, you should know the exact problem that makes your computer slow down to know the right solution for it in order not to face this problem again.
